Types of EDM Wire

- This wire is made of pure copper and was used in early stage of EDM.
- Low tensile strength, high elongation rate, excessive breakage rate
- Poor Flushing condition due to high evaporation temperature
- Slow processing speed due to high conductivity
: Slow melting and low efficiency due to heat absorbed by wire instead of work piece

- Alloy ratio of copper and zinc 65/35 - 63/37, tensile strength 50,000-145,000 psi
- High tensile strength compared with copper wire
- Excellent Flushing due to low evaporation temperature
- Wires with a few amount of Aluminum or Titanium have high tensile strength but flushing
  efficiency is deteriorated.

The wire with constant thickness of zinc coated on the surface of brass wire

The wire which gets zinc coated on the surface of brass wire and get heat treated making coated zinc to be melted and to be attached tightly to brass wire

- Zinc usually being used as coating and alloy material, is to increase cutting speed and to
   decrease the possibility of breakage.
- Zinc enhances flushing efficiency with its low evaporation temperature compared with brass.
- Coated or diffusion annealed zinc performs the role of protecting brass, so possibility of wire
   breakage is drastically decreased.
